Not Too Shabby At All...

Back in August Mamye from The Distressed Fleur De Lis submitted this dresser for our "What Would You Do?" feature we do on our Furniture Flippin' Facebook page.  She wrote, "I can usually see in my mind what I want to do with a piece the moment I pull it up on Craigslist but not this one.  I'm tired of beige, white, off white, kilim beige, antique white, old white (you get the picture) but it's the safe route.  I need help or suggestions to keep this piece neutral but not WHITE!!!" 

She asked and you all responded.  Some of the color suggestions you gave were:  emerald green, lavender, Duck Egg blue, pink and off-white, black with gold or silver, dark red with black wax, and so on and so forth.  You also suggested ways she could repurpose it with the majority of you thinking it would make a great bathroom sink/vanity.  I was on that band wagon, too.  

Mamye loved hearing everyone's ideas but it was the color suggestion of black that really stuck with her.  So, she painted it with a homemade chalk paint in Lincoln Cottage Black.  Then she distressed it and applied a dark wax.  She painted the hardware with Rustoleum metallic spray paint and then applied antique gold rub 'n buff.  She waxed the hardware with clear wax to give it more of a blended aged look.  She also used the antique gold for the scroll work on the dresser and mirror.

What a big difference.  I like it.  I like it a lot.  The hardware and scroll work really stands out now.  Whereas before it just kind of blended in to the woodwork.
