Amazing Use Of An Old Dresser...

...I am partial to dressers.  If I had to pick an item of furniture to makeover, I would choose a dresser.  After seeing today's featured flip, I'm REALLY going to be on the hunt for my next one to repurpose.

Say hello to Viv from Nana's Piddlins.  We've featured Viv before and all I can about her is she has some awesome skills when it comes to making old furniture new again.  I know when I see an email from her I'm going to be astounded by what I see.  Check out this dresser she started with...

When Viv spotted this dresser it was sitting in a thrift store window.  Her first thought was that it would make a nice TV console.  After she got it home it was apparent that it had been used and enjoyed everyday for many years.  It seemed sad to Viv that it had been discarded by it's family.  She decided it deserved to be something that would be used and loved everyday once again.  (I love that Viv!  I'm the same way when I see something discarded.  Sniff, sniff.  I think why, why?  Why would you abandon that piece of furniture??)

With her thinking cap firmly in place, Viv ultimately decided that this poor sad dresser would serve a new purpose in it's new life.  It was to become a bench.  Not just any ordinary bench, but one to stash kids gloves and hats plus give them a place to sit and put on their shoes.  (Their parents can use it, too!)

Viv and her handsome handy husband Duane started by cutting the top out so it would fit down inside the body for a seat. After sitting on it for a bit, they decided it was uncomfortable so they put a back in it on an angle to better rest against.  It needed a finish that kids couldn't hurt so Viv gave it an off white with a brown dry brush glaze.  She didn't have room in her booth at Waterloo Mercantile for it so it stayed in their house for a while and the grandkids got a little attached.  Then one day it was gone. Viv writes that the panic on their grandsons face made her want to cry, but she stayed strong and told him they could always make him another one.   Isn't that sweet?

Let's take a look at this former thrift store dresser turned into a remarkable bench...

I LOVE THAT!!  Again, another GENIUS use for an old piece of furniture.  I love how people's minds work.  So much creativity out there in the world.

Viv of Nana's Piddlins - thanks so much for sharing your awesome furniture flip.  I thank you, however, my own handsome handy husband does not.  For you have just inspired his wife to be on the lookout for a dresser so we can try our hand at this.  I have just the place for it, too.  Hehehehe...

Dear readers, you should contact Nana's Piddlins and see what they can do for you.  You can find them on their Nana's Piddlins Facebook page.  Head on over there and check out more of their great work.  They are based in Tennessee.  Let them know you saw them on Furniture Flippin'.

If you have a furniture flip that you'd like us to feature,  please email us the before/after pictures plus all of the details.  We'll help spread the word about YOU, too!
