Patti normally does her art on wooden keepsake boxes. One day she came across this student desk at a thrift store for the bargain price of $24.99...
Do you notice anything unusual about that picture? Of course you don't because you do the same thing she just did! Patti was so eager to begin her furniture transformation that she jumped headfirst into the project and THEN remembered "BEFORE PICTURE"! Just like a true furniture flipper! (Pardon me while I wipe a proud tear from my eye. We've converted another one!!)
Patti decoupaged the front of the drawers with this super cool map paper and antiqued the edges with a bit of antique ink. She painted the desk with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite and distressed it. She had run out of her antique white chalk paint, so Patti substituted a latex paint she had on hand and did the white trim. She distressed this also and darkened it by using dark wax. Patti then waxed the entire piece with both Annie Sloan clear and dark wax. She found the most incredible compass knobs at the Charleston Knob Company and they completed the look of this desk perfectly.
Let's take a look at the finished desk...
And another shot, showing the top of it...
Finally, let's take a close up of those knobs...
That. Is. Cool.
Patti had originally planned to list this item for sale but during the makeover she fell in love with it and now it proudly holds court in her son's room. Be warned Patti, falling in love with the furniture you flip is a serious side effect, one you may not be able to ward off. Good luck with that! (Wink, wink from the woman whose vehicles may have to sit outside all winter.)
Thanks so much Patti for sharing your out-of-this-world furniture flip!
Lovely work Patti! Love the distressed graphite and especially love the compass knobs. Good find!
