I Am One Step Closer...

...to NOT being a lily-livered fraidy-cat when it comes to color.  As you may or may not know, I covet yellow or the color of mustard on furniture.  I heart it big time!  The one time I started painting a piece yellow, though it turned out looking like that > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > and I ran away like a baby chicken on Easter.  Only to return and paint over it with white.  (Bawk!  Bawk!)

Lucky for us though that Stacy from Zany Zinnia isn't afraid of paint color.  She was able to accomplish what I have not.  Here's the scoop.  Stacy was perusing her local Craigslist when she came across this dresser.  She knew the moment she saw it that she had to buy it.  Once home, however, Stacy wasn't quite sure how she wanted to transform it, so it patiently waited while other projects came and went.

Stacy is in the middle of preparing to open her Zany Zinnia shop in historic downtown Dell Rapids, South Dakota.  One day she took stock of the painted pieces she had completed and felt that she needed to paint something either grey or yellow.  As she was debating which color to use, a friend chimed in, "Yellow!"  So, yellow it would be.  But, which piece would become yellow?  One look at her inventory and Stacy knew it was this piece.

Stacy chose The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company's Marigold.  Normally, Stacy avoids sanding or stripping furniture beforehand because she likes the textures that are revealed when distressing the piece after painting.  In this case, she did sand the top that had some blemishes and need a couple of spots filled.  After that, she applied three coats of the Marigold.  Stacy distressed the edges to bring out some of the details and followed that with an application of Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Wax, using the dark wax in the grooves to highlight them.  The original hardware was perfect as is, so Stacy kept them.

Let's take a look at this beauty now...

Impressive!  This piece is not only pretty, it's for sale, too!  It'll be at the grand opening of Zany Zinnia.  Be sure to check out the Zany Zinnia Facebook page for updates on their store's debut.   You'll find more pictures of her work there as well.  Head on over and let her know you saw her on Furniture Flippin'.

Thanks so much Stacy for sharing your gorgeous furniture flip!

That brings this week to a close.  I still can't believe how fast it went.  Just because it's Friday though doesn't let you off the hook as far as Furniture Flippin' goes!  Nope!  You have homework to do.  You need to send me the BEST FLIP  YOU'VE EVER DONE!  That's right.  The one that is YOUR FAVORITE.  Send me before/after pics and a ton of details to furnitureflippin@yahoo.com .
Have a great weekend!

  3. I'm so very inspired by your flips and have several pieces that I want to redo but am scared that they will turn out as one of those "not so good" pieces you have rescued. Is there a site you can recommend (or did you do a step by step and I missed it) that would be like flipping for dummies???
