This is where Megan from Shabs 2 Riches enters the picture. Megan is a relative newcomer to the world of Furniture Flippin'. She began by painting a $5 desk she found at a yard sale and it progressed from there. At first her handsome handy husband Carl was a little bit skeptical of her newfound passion for furniture. (So, was my Triple H. Show of hands readers if this sounds like your husband, too.)
He quickly jumped on board though and one day he showed her a picture of a bench made from a dresser. (Word of advice from me Megan: It doesn't take long for them to not only get with the program but to start taking all the credit for themselves. So watch him! One day you'll be standing beside him as he tells friends about a piece of furniture in the works and it sounds like it was HIS idea when it was YOURS.) Anyway, Megan and Carl decided to their hand at making a bench.
That first one sold within a week. We are going to take a look today at bench #2. It began with this little chest of drawers.
Carl first cuts the dresser in half. Next, he will go through and build a frame to the interior of the bench to make it sturdy for sitting on. He will then build the armrests on the bench.
After that, it's up to Megan to make it pretty. She had their 8 year old daughter in mind when painting this bench. She is in a black and pink phase.
Let's check out how Megan finished this piece...
Pretty zebra print cushion for the seat.
Matching zebra print knobs for the drawers.
What's this? A little surprise when you open the drawers? Why, yes it is! Check out that hot pink interior! Pretty snazzy!
Not to be outdone, the lower drawer sports the same pink attire.
Much to the disappointment of their little girl, this bench sold within 10 minutes. Yes, that reads MINUTES. Megan promised her daughter that they would make another one to keep.
Since then Megan and her husband have made many more. Let's take a look at one more they've done in a different style...
Since this is a question that my readers will have...I'll answer it right now. Megan said they do have big plans for the drawers they've removed. Waste not, want not!
Shabs 2 Riches is located in Indiana. As a matter of fact, beginning tomorrow you can find them at the Hart City Resale Mall in Elkhart, Indiana. You can also follow along with them on their Shabs 2 Riches Facebook page. Head on over, give them a "like" and let them know you saw them on Furniture Flippin'. Thanks so much Megan for sharing your fabulous furniture flip! My husband doesn't thank you. He thinks we have enough projects to do. He says to tell your husband, "thanks a lot pal!". Hehehehehe...
