The Furniture Apprentice

Don't start looking for Donald Trump here today, because you won't find him.  Instead I am going to introduce you to Chris of Fabulous Finds of Denton, TX.   He runs a furniture redecorating, restoration and resale business.  This summer Chris brought on an apprentice, his 14 year old nephew Jake.

Together, Chris and Jake tackled this chest of drawers...

Life had taken its toll on this dresser in the form of abuse by spray paint, ink pen and some device that was used to gouge a hole in the top drawer.  Chris and Jake tag teamed it though.  Jake handled the sanding, working his way through many different layers of paint.  They had to do some repair work on the front corner due to a missing piece.  Wood filler was used to fill the break and create a smooth transition.  They did the same thing to the gouge in the drawer.   Then it was time to move onto the painting part of this makeover, Chris was in charge of that task.  For the main color, he used a Valspar Signature Paint from Lowes that had been picked up in the $5 mis-tint cart.  It turned out to be a very pretty periwinkle color.  For the drawers he used a Valspar color called Cream Delight.  He finished up the piece with a water based polyurethane.

Are you ready to see the after picture of this Uncle/Nephew team transformation?

Here you go...

What a difference!  You'll be pleased to know that their efforts paid off and this piece has a new home, having sold in just one day.  Way to go Chris & Jake!

You can see more of their work on the Fabulous Finds of Denton, Texas Facebook page.   Let Chris & his nephew Jake know you saw them here.  If you live in their area, contact them!  They have furniture finds for you to choose from or you can have them makeover a piece you already own.

Thanks Chris & Jake for sharing your wonderful furniture flip!
