Andrea is a very busy woman. She's not only a very talented furniture flipper and decorator, she's also a busy mom to five little ones. She left her career in nursing to shift her focus to one in decorating. Recently she has completed two of these Louis XV Cabinets.
The sheer size of it is intimidating to me and while I would be wondering "how the heck am I going to get that home?" Andrea shows how they actually break down into 7 pieces plus the shelving and they are held together with 8 screws. This makes it small enough to fit into the back of a Volvo.
Once Andrea gets it home, she treats the piece with woodworm killer because she says woodworms are out of control in Europe. After that was dry and had set overnight, she painted the interior. Her customer wanted a lilac color with a grey undertone so she mixed up some Annie Sloan and painted the inside.
Then Andrea wallpapered the back panel. She likes to use Laura Ashley as it is simple and elegant.
Now it was time to paint the exterior. Andrea loves to highlight all the carvings of the piece in a contrasting color so they stand out. Her customer wanted a dark grey on the outside with white details. She sanded the piece to give it a distressed feel and then waxed. She used dark wax on this piece per her customer's request. When all the painting was finished, it was time to reassemble for a photo. The crown on this cabinet was too tall to fit in Andrea's house, so that is why they chose to set it up outside.
Let's take a look at this piece now...
Beautiful! Remember I told you she had two of these to makeover? You can go to her blog and check out the after of the second one. It's stunning, too.
