...that's how Susan From Stone Creek ReDesigns and Finds described her vision of how she wanted today's featured flip to look when she was finished with it.
Susan hails from Virginia and if we've learned nothing else from American Pickers, we do know this...the best stuff to be had can usually be found on the East Coast. (Oh, and Mike likes motorcycles and Frank likes toys.) That's where she came across this amazing dresser in a local thrift shop...
Look at the detail on that. No, wait. Don't look now because you have to see the after to really appreciate the detail. Instead, note the damage to the veneer on the top and all of the scratches and dings it has. That dresser has been doing some living that's for sure!
Susan mulled over a few color choices before deciding on Miss Mustard Seed's Boxwood Milk Paint. First she had to strip off the warped and badly splintering veneer top which
left the rough underlayment. She sanded and stained that with dark walnut. She was going for the not-so-perfect look which she loves so much.
She painted the majority of the dresser, but left the two drawers
with curly maple veneer natural. She used bonding agent when she mixed up
the first batch of paint to minimize the chips. Once dried after one
more coat (this time with no bonding agent), she added a light sanding,
distressed the details of the gorgeous carvings, added several coats of
wax - and she was nearing the finish line with this one.
She chose simple walnut stained wood knobs on the two lower drawers and
pulled out the last two iron bird knobs she had left in her stash and
painted them to match the dresser.
And, now it's complete...
Isn't it magnificent? You have to check out even more pictures of it, including close-ups, on the Stone Creek ReDesigns and Finds blog.
